Medicare Overview

What is Medicare?
These are the main questions we hear from New York residents approaching Medicare. While finding the answers can be difficult on your own, you don’t have to figure it out yourself if you don’t want to. We’re happy to coach you through the process, and help as much (or little) as you like.
Medicare is a federal health insurance program that was created on July 30th, 1965. This program was created to cover Americans 65 years and older. In addition, some people with medical conditions (ALS) or disabilities (SSDI) can get coverage from Medicare.
Most people will join Medicare when they turn 65 years old. In order to be eligible, most Americans will have to have worked for a minimum of 10 years or 40 quarters. If you still have employer coverage when you turn 65, you will have options on whether or not to enroll in Medicare or stay on your employers coverage.
